How much does SEO cost?

SEO costs €760/month in the Coding SEO Consultant service: typically 8 hours a month, with no start-up fee.

SEO starts with an analysis and fixes, and continues every month with new content and improvements. SEO done once delivers results for years.

How SEO proceeds

    • We check how your site currently appears on Google
    • Analysis of current visitors — where they come from and who they are
    • Analysis of possible issues on the site
  2. Keyword research
    • How often are each of the search terms searched?
    • Which keywords are worth targeting?
  3. Plans
    • A fix plan if the site has technical problems
    • Suggestions for on-site changes (headings, meta data, site structure)
    • Recommendations for further SEO development based on the keyword research — i.e. which topics to create content for.
  4. Implementations

  5. Monitoring
    • Tracking results and a live dashboard

What does ongoing SEO cost?

As an ongoing service, SEO is part of the Coding SEO Consultant service: €760/month, typically 8 hours a month.

In the monthly service I spend the hours where they bring the most: on new content and fixes, website development and Google Ads.

  • Typically 8 hours a month (€760/month)
  • Editing content and creating new content every month
  • Website maintenance, updates and further development
  • Google Ads campaign management and optimization
  • A check-in meeting every month, so that you know how things are going, and I know how SEO has affected your sales
  • No start-up fee. Cancel any time.

The ongoing service pays off especially when the website is large (100+ pages), its content changes all the time, or your field has hard competition.

Results usually show in 3–6 months, so I recommend at least three months.

Monthly service, project or hourly rate?

SEO is priced in three ways: as a monthly service, as a project or by the hour. A fourth way is to get it thrown in when you have a website made.

Monthly service

In a monthly service, your website’s visibility is tracked, changes in it are acted on, and new content is created every month. The Coding SEO Consultant service costs €760/month, and it includes your website’s maintenance and Google Ads too. This is how I do SEO.

Project

In a project, your website’s problems are checked and fixed for one project price. A project has a clear scope and price, and you know in advance when it ends.

Hourly rate

Some SEO consultants in Finland bill their work by the hour. The hourly rate varies wildly with the consultant’s experience, from about €50 to €200. Coding SEO Consultant is typically 8 hours of work a month for a fixed monthly price, so the month’s bill does not surprise you.

Hourly billing works best for small, targeted jobs: an audit of the website (what shape it is in now), consulting (what is worth doing to it), or fixing a single problem.

Hourly work has the same risk as hiring a renovation firm: you never know in advance how many hours the job will take in the end. So always agree on a cap for the hours, or ask for a fixed price for the whole job.

Thrown in

Every website builder promises SEO thrown in for free. Most website builders, however, are not SEO professionals: to them, SEO means that the site works on every device and has some SEO plugin installed. What you get thrown in is usually what you pay for.

Calculate the value of SEO

The calculator was built using ChatGPT’s custom GPT feature

Give the "SEO potential" bot a page URL and it will evaluate which search terms matter most for that site.

Next, the tool estimates how often those search terms are searched each month in the chosen language.

Finally, it calculates how much it would cost to buy visibility for those search terms with Google Ads.

This is how you determine the value of search engine optimization.

A calculation of an SEO project's value: it costs €500–1,500, and its organic traffic is worth about €22,500 a year

When does SEO pay for itself?

SEO is a slow game. Google doesn’t lift a site to the top in an instant, even when everything is done right.

It has one big difference from advertising, though: when the ad budget runs out, the visibility ends the same second. A site that has risen to good positions, on the other hand, brings visitors month after month without you paying for every click.

So do the math yourself: what is one new customer worth to you? In most fields, a few sales pay for the whole optimization.

Avoid these mistakes

Avoid these mistakes when choosing an SEO professional.

Many people offer SEO services, and the number of providers keeps growing. Google doesn’t openly disclose which factors influence rankings or how they’re weighted. That means there are lots of different opinions in the industry about what works and what doesn’t.

For that reason, choosing the right SEO professional takes some thought.

How do you avoid hiring a bad SEO pro?

Pay special attention to the following:

  • References
Ask for concrete examples of past projects and the results achieved. A good professional can show how visibility and rankings improved.
  • Their own visibility on Google
Search for the person or agency and see how they appear in results. Someone who sells SEO and WordPress services should rank well for relevant keywords.
  • Long-term approach
SEO relies on technical know-how, content optimization, and continuous improvement. Results come from systematic work over time.

My Finnish website ranks in the top 3 on Google in Finland for almost all searches related to SEO and WordPress websites. This shows my work is based on practical, proven solutions.

Beware of these sales pitches

These sales pitches are red flags:

  • “We guarantee first place on Google.” Nobody can guarantee rankings, because Google decides them itself. Period.
  • A long fixed-term contract without reporting. If you can’t see what is done with your money, you probably get nothing.
  • Cheap packages from abroad. Cheap junk links can even hurt your visibility.
  • “We are an official Google partner.” The Google Partner badge is about Google Ads advertising, not SEO.

A good SEO consultant tells you openly what they do, what it costs and when you can expect results.

Can you do SEO yourself for free?

Anyone can learn the basics of SEO, and the most important tools are free. These get you a long way:

  • Install the free Google Search Console and see which searches your website shows up for now.
  • Give every page a title that says clearly what the page is about.
  • Write content that answers your customers’ real questions.

The price of free SEO is your own time. If your hours are worth more in client work than in wrestling with Google, outsource the job. A good place to start is my SEO guide for beginners.
