WordPress plugin development

Custom WordPress plugins for Finnish companies.

Do you need functionality for your WordPress site that no ready-made plugin provides? Or has your current plugin jungle grown out of control?

I develop custom WordPress plugins that do exactly what you need — no more, no less. Lightweight, fast and secure.

Why a custom plugin?

Off-the-shelf plugins solve common problems. Your business is not common.

There are over 60,000 plugins in the WordPress directory, yet many companies end up using five plugins to solve a single problem. Every extra plugin slows down the site, increases security risks, and turns maintenance into a nightmare.

A custom plugin solves this:

  • One plugin — one task. No unnecessary code, no features you don’t use
  • Fast and lightweight. Minimal code means minimal impact on loading speed
  • Secure. No third-party dependencies whose updates could break your site
  • Yours. The code is yours — you’re not locked into one service provider

What plugins can I develop?

Practically anything that can be done in the WordPress environment.

Business logic and automations

Plugins that automate repetitive processes: form handling, email notifications, order management, customer portals, invoicing integrations, and CRM connections.

Gutenberg blocks and content management

Custom Gutenberg blocks that give content creators exactly the right tools. For example, pricing tables, service cards, reference galleries, or industry-specific content structures.

API integrations

I connect your WordPress site to external services: payment services (Stripe, Paytrail), booking systems, inventory management, accounting software, Google services, and social media platforms.

Analytics and reporting tools

Dashboard views and reporting tools directly in the WordPress admin. Visualisation of advertising data, conversion tracking, lead management, and performance metrics all in one place.

WooCommerce extensions

Custom WooCommerce plugins: special pricing, product configurators, shipping logic, order automations, and custom checkout pages.

Off-the-shelf plugins vs. custom plugin

Why is a custom plugin a better solution than five ready-made plugins stacked on top of each other?
Miten muut tekeeTapio Kauranen
Install 5–10 plugins to solve one problem. Each plugin loads its own scripts and styles. One custom plugin handles everything. Minimal amount of code, maximum performance.
Plugin updates can break the site. Compatibility issues are an everyday occurrence. A custom plugin is built specifically for your site. No unexpected compatibility issues.
Support for ready-made plugins ends or the plugin is abandoned. You are at the mercy of the developer. The code is yours. Maintenance and further development is always possible.
Monthly fees accumulate: 10€/month + 15€/month + 20€/month = 540€/year just in license fees. A one-time investment that pays for itself quickly. No monthly fees.

This is how plugin development progresses

A clear process from idea to finished plugin.

1. Survey and planning

We start with a short meeting where we go through what the plugin needs to do. I prepare a written technical plan that defines the features, schedule and budget.

2. Development

I build the plugin according to WordPress development best practices: secure code, clear structure, WordPress Coding Standards. You receive interim demos as development progresses.

3. Testing and installation

The plugin is thoroughly tested before installation. Compatibility with your theme and other plugins is tested. I install the plugin on your site and ensure everything works.

4. Documentation and handover

You receive clear instructions for using the plugin. The code is comprehensively commented for further development. The plugin is yours — you can continue developing it yourself if you wish or order updates from me.

Kansleri Cookie Consent

Example of my expertise: my own plugin in the WordPress directory.

Kansleri Cookie Consent is a completely free, lightweight and professional cookie consent plugin that I have developed and published in the official WordPress plugin directory.

The plugin includes e.g.:

  • Google Consent Mode v2 integration
  • Automatic blocking of scripts and iframe embeds
  • Built-in cookie scanner
  • Consent logs and statistics panel
  • Full WPML and Polylang multilingual support
  • AI-assisted generation of cookie descriptions and privacy page

This is an example of the level at which I build WordPress plugins — for you as well.

WordPress plugin development pricing

The price depends on the scope of the plugin. Typically €500 – €5000.

Small plugins — for example a simple form integration or custom shortcode — are completed in a few days. Larger entities such as dashboard tools, API integrations or WooCommerce extensions require more time.

The price always includes

  • Technical design and specification
  • Development according to WordPress Coding Standards
  • Testing and installation on your site
  • Documentation and user instructions
  • 30 days of support after delivery

Ongoing maintenance

  • Plugin updates with WordPress core updates
  • Development of new features as needed
  • Support and bug fixes

Maintenance is agreed separately and is typically 1–2 hours per month.
