However, the links need to be high quality. Bought links and adding your site to link lists rarely affect search engine visibility.
An external link can be described as a vote in favor of your website. The vote from high-quality links can be hundreds of times more powerful than that of a low-quality link.

These links are problematic:

The site administrator can, if desired, add a rel=nofollow code snippet to the link for search engines to read. The code asks the search engine not to follow (i.e. not to index) this link. These links are unlikely to affect your site’s search engine visibility.
Rel=nofollow is often used on sites where users can generate content themselves. The code is often used to prevent link spamming. Below is a list of links that use the rel=nofollow tag on all of their links.
You can test whether a site’s links contain the rel=nofollow tag, for example, with the MozBar extension (green = does not contain, red = contains).
The general understanding of links is that the link should lead to the page whose search engine visibility you want to improve. Therefore, it is recommended that each important page on your site has its own external links.
Linking to the homepage also affects other pages on the site. Moz‘s Domain Authority (DA) suggests that a link also has a slight effect on the site’s overall visibility in search engines.
